YAG laser

YAG stands for Yttrinium Aluminum Garnet, which is the crystal used for the laser. The lasing substance commonly used with YAG crystal is Neodium (Nd). These lasers are most commonly used for therapeutic procedures such as posterior capsulotomy, retinal photocoagulation (treatment for diabetic retinopathy), as well as for surgical glaucoma treatments. The laser used in LASIK and PRK procedures is an excimer Argon Fluoride (ArF) laser.
