glaucoma
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases characterized by damage to the
optic nerve fibers. If not treated,
it is a progressive eye condition in which peripheral vision is gradually lost and may lead to
blindness. In most cases, glaucoma is associated with a
rise in intraocular pressure.
goblet cells
Cells that are found in the space where the inside of the eyelid meets the eyeball. Goblet cells
secrete mucin proteins, which are necessary for maintaining a stable
tear film and preventing the eyes
from drying out.
gonioscopy
Use of a specialized lens containing mirrors so that the
anterior angle of the
anterior chamber can be viewed.
Gonioscopy is not part of a regular eye exam, but is useful for assessing the natural filtration
system that drains
aqueous humour out of the eye.
